Celebrate Good Times! FASZINATION MODELLBAU Invites You to Friedrichshafen for its 25th Anniversary from the 1st to the 3rd of November, 2019

Absolute passion for the miniature. On land. On the water. In the air! As the leading international exhibition for model railroading and model building, FASZINATION MODELLBAU is Europe’s most popular and attractive event for all model builders. And this year’s event will be very special because, together with its fabulous model building community, the exhibition will be celebrating its 25th anniversary from the 1st through the 3rd of November, 2019. This will be celebrated in a spectacular manner with numerous highlights, new products, world premieres and action campaigns. After last year’s record-breaking attendance amounting to 53,000 visitors, fans from all model building segments are looking forward to the big anniversary celebration on Lake Constance where Germany, Austria and Switzerland meet. Once again, more than 400 highly motivated national and international exhibitors will present everything the miniature world has to offer their fans – live and in colour, including Steampunk at Echtdampf-Hallentreffen, the cultural event for steam locomotive fans.

Since its inception in Sinsheim in 1994, the unique atmosphere of FASZINATION MODELLBAU as a hands-on exhibition has been based on the wonderfully unconventional and exceptional interaction of the brand-name exhibitors’ high-quality product presentations for the specialist audience and the accompanying creative and inspiring, participatory activities of the clubs and associations for the whole family. Clearly structured and ideally coordinated on the exhibition grounds in Friedrichshafen – in nine exhibition halls and two foyers, in the large indoor open area and on the cool outdoor exhibition lake, as well as at the unique air strip – outfitters ranging from major market leaders and brilliant small series manufacturers right on up to well-assorted accessories specialists will all come together to present the diverse range of services of the model building industry.

This extremely comprehensive event with a focus on high-quality, functional model building unites a variety of segments including aircraft model building, model railways and steam engine model building, truck and military model building, plastic and cardboard model building, as well as car and ship model building at an ideal location – demonstrations of remarkable aircraft models, in particular the “Stars of the Year” flying show which is highly regarded at the international level, daring RC racing cars, courageous RC slow flyers, magnificent sailing yachts and ship regattas on the 400 square metre water basin, shipyards, hissing iron horses, classic railway beauties, dancing snow groomers and mighty power drones, as well as powerful high-tech trucks and excavators in miniature and even micro formats. Tinkering, talking shop, designing, trying things out, marvelling, shopping and playing bring people together! Visitors from all over the world stroll from hall to hall, get involved spontaneously or purposefully at the numerous booths and stations, shop, marvel, joke and enjoy the entertaining and splendid miniature universe on Lake Constance for three days.

Heavenly Classics and Flights with Adrenaline Rush

A heavenly model aircraft show of superlatives will take place again on the ideally situated airstrip – this year for the first time on all four exhibition days. Moderated in a highly professional manner and with genuine champions, the incomparable “Stars of the Year” flight show will launch the fascinating anniversary round. Visitors will be presented with the most beautiful performances of the 2019 flying season by international, European and German champions who will travel to the event specifically for this purpose with their well-equipped model aircraft. Beyond this, heavenly choreographs with sleek RC electric aircraft models and creatively witty, self-made models will be flown for the entire family at the indoor flight show in the large West foyer which is bathed in light. In addition to the shows, each visitor will have the opportunity of gathering advice in the large hangar and obtaining first-hand information about the manufacturers’ new products. Professional advice and excellent problem-solving help, available at the pro booths operated by the associations as well, are a popular standard feature at FASZINATION MODELLBAU.

On the other hand, the Indoor Drone Championship is a real adrenaline pump. Speed, concentration, palpable tension and spherical whirring sounds take the audience deep into the world of action drones. Highly concentrated, the e-athletes sit behind their video goggles and their super sensitive controllers and engage in a genuine battle of the drones (equipped with powerful electric drives) through the treacherous course which is riddled with obstacles. At the same time, the audience can follow each and every flight manoeuvre from the multicopter’s point of view on a big screen, and thus experience wicked starts, cool challenges and adventurous chases. This indoor highlight is not just something for drone insiders, but rather for anyone who’s curious as well, because the drones are equipped with an amazing mixture of technology: the combination of a powerful computer, position sensors, the latest battery technology, carbon frames and a high-performance camera (which is playing a major role in the current drone boom) make these speed demons a real technological eye-catcher at the exhibition.

Ready to Race?

What else! Carrera Fun Tour Time will take place in the East foyer at FASZINATION MODELLBAU. Kids and teenagers, and of course their parents and grandparents too, can take the curves at full throttle with the circling race cars and enjoy a great time with the jesting race commentator. The youngest Carrera fans can participate at Carrera GO, where they can push the pedal to the metal at their hand controls, speeding over hills and through banked curves. Older racing drivers can step on the gas at Carrera DIGITAL with 1:32 scale models and choose from amongst numerous dream cars from the major brands such as the Porsche 911, a Ferrari 488 or the Lamborghini Huracán.

After laying in a break since 2014, the Devils Drift Crew from the greater Stuttgart area will be competing for the third time this year at FASZINATION MODELLBAU with about 16 drivers and 30 to 40 models, and will drift adventurously over the roughly 100 metre long course with their all-wheel drive belt chassis. Drivers have to demonstrate extreme finesse in order to keep the vehicle moving skilfully, and as quickly as possible, through the winding course on the smooth surface. And of course the appropriate drift car style must not be lacking – these models are often highly realistic copies of their larger archetypes. The eyes of the drivers as well as the spectators light up as soon as the vehicle finds its way cleanly through the curve without any rear-end breakaway tendency.

Classics with the Latest Technologies

This is precisely what the numerous model railway exhibitors offer with their unique and timeless, classic miniature worlds. The outstanding variety of model railways in all gauges, including steam railway model building and innovative technical accessories, link up all generations in four railroad halls. In addition to the big brand-name manufacturers like Märklin, LGB, Trix, Faller, Noch, BEMO, BRAWA, Tillig, Herpa, ESU and LEMKE, as well as PIKO and KM1 again this year, lots of small series manufacturers will also be on hand to answer the visitors’ questions. Every wish is fulfilled. FASZINATION MODELLBAU exhibitors will offer cool and stimulating hands-on activities for their younger guests. Kids will be able to experience the diversified hobby of model railroading in a creative fashion. With its large exhibition area and “Märklin my world”, leading brand-name manufacturer Märklin cordially invites visitors to immerse themselves into the exciting world of miniature railways and to set their first locomotives into motion with the help of simple plug-in connections. Free reign will also be given to the creativity of children and young people by the BDEF’s Junior College Europe. Visitors will be able to tinker, build and let off steam creatively – and of course bring the results back home.

For sensation-seekers who simply want to enjoy their exhibition fun in peace and quiet, beautiful model building layouts in all gauges provide interesting scenes from all over the world with amazingly faithful details and humorous elements which invite viewers to linger and be amazed – for example Hagen von Ortloff’s show layout based on the 1950s and the 1960s. Together with Lutz Mäder and Stephan Kraus, the highly popular celebrity moderator of “Eisenbahn-Romatik” (German television program: railway romanticism) will present a layout entitled “Model Railway and Transportation History”. The BRAWA cable railway is the centrepiece of this layout, and to some extent railways with centre rail which still clatter over their metal tracks as well. Buildings from traditional companies like Faller, Vollmer and Kibri, as well as the legendary villa in Ticino, round off the playful 1950s and 1960s look.

A Truly Steaming Meet

Flamelickers, boilers, burners, valves made of stainless steel, brass and copper gleam on the pedestals and the miniature trains powered by real steam invite visitors both young and old to climb aboard and go for a ride. Unique, hissing, puffing and of course truly steaming models of railways, road vehicles, ships and stationary systems will be presented to the technically interested model building public at the world’s largest indoor real steam meet (Echtdampf-Hallentreffen). After being initially launched by Messe Sinsheim more than twenty years ago, Echtdampf-Hallentreffen rapidly established itself as the cult event for steam locomotive enthusiasts and continues to inspire all of its participants and visitors today.

Step on the Gas, Have Fun, #Modellbaufun!

The social community is also eagerly awaiting the 2019 edition of FASZINATION MODELLBAU and is participating in the big ticket raffle on the occasion of the event’s 25th anniversary with its #Modellbaufun photos (model building fun). Each month, all hashtaggers currently have the chance of winning two tickets to the model building adventure. How? By simply sharing their most beautiful modelling moments with #modellbaufun on Facebook or Instagram. After all, nowhere else are model building fans from the great variety of model building sectors and everyone else who’s curious united so harmoniously and exuberantly as here. And thus large numbers of model building fans of all generations from all over Europe and overseas are once again expected at the sector’s largest event anywhere in the world for its anniversary event, who will celebrate the unique community feeling live for three days at FASZINATION MODELLBAU in Friedrichshafen.
